About Chiapas: It is the gate to enter the Mexican southeast. Chiapas is a multicoloured mosaic tinted with the ancestral folklore of our people and coexisting cultures. It is within luxurious landscapes which show amazing blue rivers, waterfalls and lakes as well as exotic jungles, forests and mountains. Chiapas is a meeting point with people from all over the world. It is the eighth biggest state in Mexico; it has a territory of 75,634 km2 that is the 3.8% of the Country's surface. Chiapas is situated between 14ª32' and 17ª59 in northern latitude and between the meridians 90ª22' and 94ª15' in western longitude. Chiapas is bounded by Tabasco to the north, Guatemala to the east, Veracruz and Oaxaca to the west and Pacific Ocean to the south.

Water Basins: In Chiapas is concentrated 30% of Country's shallow water which is the source of several rivers like Grijalva, the largest in Mexico, and others like Usumacinta, Lacantum and Jatate. There are also important fangs as Belisario Domínguez, Nezahualcoyotl, Peñitas and Chicoasen.

Protected Areas: Chiapas has 37 Ecological protected areas, Montes Azules is one of the most important protected areas and it is a patrimony of humanity because it has the largest hydrologic region in the country. La Sepultura is one of the most beautiful protected areas with its mountains and unique landscapes. La Encrucijada owns the highest mangrove areas of American Pacific Ocean. El Ocote is considered as one of the most important cavernous complex in the world. El Triunfo has numerous animal and vegetal species in its fog wood and rain forest, some of them are in danger for example the bird quetzal.

Economic regions: There are 19,455 towns and cities in Chiapas , they are distributed in 118 municipalities that are classified in 9 economic regions: I Centro, II Altos, III Fronteriza, IV Frailesca; V Norte, VI Selva VII Sierra, VIII Soconusco, and IX Istmo Costa. We are about 4 000,000 inhabitants, and we are the eighth state in range of population. Approximately a half of the population is under 20 years old, and it is a group that demands educational, health and job-searching services. Women are 50.47% of the population, so we are looking towards women's participation in politics, social and economic subjects.

Ethnography: Population in Chiapas is distributed in two main groups, the people who live in the country in towns that have less than 2,500 inhabitants. 54 from 100 people in Chiapas live in the country; there are 19,309 towns with less than 2,500 people. 28 from 100 people live in the 17 cities that have more than 15,000 inhabitants. The largest cities in Chiapas are the capital Tuxtla Gutierrez, Tapachula, San Cristobal de las Casas, Ocosingo, Comitan de Dominguez and Palenque. About 1 000,000 of the population in Chiapas are native people. They are 9 ethnics, each one of them has its own identity that involve different religions, culture and rules. We can mention the Tseltales, Tsotsiles, Zoques and Lacandones as the most important ethnics.

Transport and links: Chiapas has 21,790 kms of main roads that join the state's cities. There are several airports that connect Chiapas with the rest of the country and some cities abroad: Llano San Juan and Francisco Sarabia in the capital Tuxtla Gutierrez; Corazón de Maria in San Cristobal de las Casas; Palenque's Airport and Tapachula International Airport. Puerto Chiapas is considered an important harbour in Mexico because it has an extension of 2, 340,000 MI and it develops important fishery, commercial, and industrial activities.

Economy Infrastructure: Nowadays Chiapas is considered by national and international entrepreneurs a trustful place to invest. Business in Chiapas has considerably grown up in the latest years, and there are now more supermarkets, commercial malls and restaurant franchises. In Chiapas the working population is 76.3% of men and 48.4% of women. 47% of the working population is older than 12 years.
